Game Recovery Guidelines & Regulations
• Dog tracking is allowed with a valid DNR permit.
• Dogs may be used off-leash if the tracker maintains control.
• Only the licensed hunter may dispatch and tag the bear.
• No loaded gun, cocked crossbow, or nocked arrow until the moment of dispatch.
• Private land tracks require landowner permission. Notification of neighboring properties is the hunter’s responsibility before the tracker arrives.
• We will not track bears at night.
• No smoking or drinking during the track.
• Only the tracker, licensed hunter, and a parent/guardian or spouse may attend in the field.
• Please do not grid-search before calling a tracking dog—it makes recovery much more difficult.
• Each track must be reported to the DNR prior to starting. Driver’s license and tag number are required.
• Due to past issues, photo proof of your tag and license will be required before I arrive.
